Stress Relief with Coloring For Adults
The day I realized my life was out of control, was the day I decided it was time to try stress relief with coloring. Being a dedicated nurturer, I believed my mission was to take care of others. I’m a wife, mother, nurse, nana, cook, housekeeper, writer, crafter, aromatherapist, entrepreneur…and the list goes on. I’ve written several articles, an ebook, and co-authored a book sharing how I arrived at a burnout state. The very simple answer is: you cannot give out everything you have to others, and not replenish the well.
As a child, I was very creative. I suppose it’s in my genes. My mother is a very creative person. Looking to my aunts, and grandmother, they were too. Grandmother created quilts and painted. My mother and aunts all sew. My aunt Audrey does tiny paper crafting called quilling. They all do various fiber arts like knitting, crochet, and needlework. As a child and teenager, I loved to draw, sew, wood-burning, color, and just about anything to do with creating. I set this aside as I married and became busy with running a household and raising children.
A few years ago, I began to look for ways to reduce my stress. For one thing, I learned to say “no” more often. I began to read about stress relief with coloring. There wasn’t much on it then, but things like zentangle and doodling were becoming popular. I began to purchase kits that had books and colored pencils. What I found is that creating from scratch can be stressful just figuring out what to draw. That is when I found Adult Coloring Books! More creative themes, and I didn’t have to figure out what to draw. It was a nice start for me!
Now there are articles appearing everywhere about how people can experience stress relief with coloring. I even found an article on the Huffington Post.
Here is a sampling of Adult Coloring Books geared toward stress relief:
I didn’t realize stress relief with coloring for adults was becoming such a big thing. I had purchased kits to learn about doodling and zentangle, but I ended up enjoying the Adult Coloring Books the most since I didn’t have to come up with my own designs. It seems less stressful to me.
Beginner Adult Coloring Books
To begin your journey to stress relief with coloring, you may begin with any coloring book you choose. However, I suggest beginning with one that isn’t so difficult. These books are fairly simple, with the Happy Coloring Book actually good for people with poor vision.
The first step is just to get started! I’ve shared a few of my favorites from Amazon. I have Amazon Prime, and so I get free shipping. I like that because it only takes 2 days to get my purchases, and I don’t have to use gas as I drive all over town trying to find things. For most things, I buy local, but this is actually a stress reducer for me to have the option of looking for exactly what without running all over town.
I hope you enjoy stress relief with coloring! It’s changed my life!
